How to Make Matcha Cold Brew
Ingredients
- Matcha powder: 1-2 tsp (high-quality recommended)
- Cold water: 500 ml
- Optional: Sugar or honey (1-2 tsp, adjust to taste), milk or plant-based milk (e.g., almond milk, 50-100 ml), ice cubes (as needed)
- Tools: Whisk or spoon, airtight container, fine-mesh strainer (optional)
Steps
- Mix matcha and water: In an airtight container, combine matcha powder and cold water. Whisk or stir thoroughly until the matcha is fully dissolved (about 1-2 minutes).
- Refrigerate: Seal the container and refrigerate. Steep for 4-12 hours (overnight recommended) to fully develop the flavor.
- Strain (optional): After refrigeration, strain the mixture through a fine-mesh strainer if any powder residue remains.
- Add flavorings: Stir in sugar, honey, or milk according to preference.
- Serve: Pour into a glass over ice. Garnish with lemon slices or mint leaves if desired.
Tips
- Matcha selection: Use pure matcha powder (not green tea powder) to prevent clumping.
- Steeping time: Longer steeping intensifies flavor, but exceeding 12 hours may cause bitterness.
- Variations: Enhance flavor with additions like lemon juice or fresh mint.
- Storage: Keep refrigerated for 1-2 days; shake well before serving.
